About your child's school lunch

Lunch is a sociable part of the day and our staff work hard to ensure your child enjoys lunchtime.

We encourage children to try new foods and run special days and promotional events throughout the school year. This is a way of introducing new ideas and talking to children about educational issues in a non-threatening way.

The benefits of having a School Lunch include?

  • School lunches are freshly cooked each day and offer hot and cold, meat and non-meat choices, with a choice of dessert, fruit or yoghurt. Salads, fresh milk or fruit drinks are also available each day.
  • All meals are nutritionally balanced over the course of one week and are served by helpful and understanding catering staff.
  • Children can sit down together and enjoy their meal, whilst at the same time developing those social skills of eating together that are so important in later life.
  • A well-fed and happy child is more likely to be receptive to participating in the afternoon’s activities.
  • Someone else preparing and cooking lunch for your child, which saves you worrying about a Packed meal every day.

Quality Assurance

Lancashire County Commercial Services was awarded ISO 9001:2000 for our Quality Management System in April 2002.

The system sets a framework by which we produce and deliver all the components concerned with providing catering services to schools. The management system is audited independently by the accreditation body twice per year.

Operations Managers are responsible for fully auditing the standards of service at each location every year under our Quality Assurance Programme. The programme embraces comprehensive checks on standards under the following headings:

Section 1 Menu Planning and Meal Quality

Section 2 Hygiene Standards

Section 3 Food Storage

Section 4 Health and Safety and Risk Assessment

Section 5 Administration

Section 6 Personal Hygiene

Following the completion of each audit, the findings and action points are agreed with the Unit Manager and are discussed with the school as part of the Service Review Agenda.
